Coach Lockwood on Post Play

The first time I saw Coach Lockwood speak was at the Step Up Symposium in Charlotte. From the moment he started presenting I knew I was going to enjoy listening to him. His passion for the game was evident. You can tell he was truly happy to be out there teaching the game to his peers.

The following are some of the things I learned from his presentation on Post Play:

4 Simple Basics in the Post
  • How to get open where you can score
  • How to stay open by knowing how to seal
  • How to safely receive the ball
  • How to score simply

Keys when sealing:
  • Don’t get pushed out of your scoring zone
  • Always try and show your numbers to the ball
  • Be able to see the back of your hands
  • Helps with catching and committing an offensive foul
  • Feet should be outside your shoulders
  • 1 defender should never be able to keep you from getting a touch

“Players may forget their teachers or some of their teammates, but they never forget their coaches”
